Mine also broke into two parts.
You buy something made of stainless steel to get something decent, and then the welds come apart. Sorry. Chinese junk!

Divided into two parts - but not indestructible!
According to the description above, it's "indestructible." How is it then that the pegboard detached completely cleanly from the frame for me as well? Quality lasts longer.

The design and workmanship could be improved....
After only a short time, the base plate simply broke out of its holder. The exposed welds were a joke in terms of their workmanship. The item is practically unusable. An exchange is not possible due to the lack of a receipt (it was a gift). It's not bad as a decorative piece in the kitchen, though...

Faulty design
Fixing the perforated plates to two thin metal arms with small welds is, from a purely mechanical standpoint, very poorly designed due to the large forces involved. After some time with regular use, the plate simply broke off.

Hands off!
The welds broke after only about a year, rendering the tamper unusable. WMF is refusing a replacement because I no longer have the receipt. This is outrageous, as no consumer can be expected to keep a receipt for every little item. Since they have already been unhelpful with other complaints (rust spots on the bottom of the pot, scratches on Cromargan Protect cutlery), I will no longer buy any WMF products. As great as their design is, their quality is highly questionable!

Masher not as described
This product is NOT indestructible as described. The base plate of my masher separated from the handle. Nice product but beware WMF Guarantee on this item is only for two years.

It didn't last long
bought the potato masher about three months ago, and after only a short time, the welding points came loose and the masher broke. Since I no longer have the receipt, I can't return it to the store. Perhaps the fastening mechanism should be redesigned.

You'd have to be a real pro to prevent the weld on the stamping plate from breaking after only a short time! Good advice: STAY AWAY from this "professional" device!!!

Overall okay.
No, the tamper isn't as bad as the other reviews suggest. The hanging loop is a bit of a nuisance, yes – but hanging it up would be difficult without it. I suppose there's no other way to do it. Even after years of use, I haven't noticed any quality issues. I clean the tamper in the dishwasher after each use, and so far, it's been fine. Nothing rusts or breaks.
