WMF Salt and Pepper Mill, 40 cm – Disappointing Durability and Poor Customer Service. Five years ago, I opted for the large WMF salt and pepper mill (40 cm, high-gloss lacquered wood, ceramic grinding mechanism). Visually, the mill is a real eye-catcher, of high-quality workmanship, and initially, it worked perfectly. I always treated it with care and used it exclusively according to the instructions. My disappointment was all the greater when the ceramic grinding mechanism completely stopped working after only five years. With a brand-name product in this price range, and especially given WMF's reputation for quality and durability, I would have expected significantly greater longevity. After all, a pepper mill isn't a consumable item that needs to be replaced after a short time. For this reason, I contacted WMF customer service – not only to explain my issue but also to give the company the opportunity to learn from my feedback and improve my perception of them. Unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. Customer service seemed rather unfriendly and insisted on seeing a receipt in every conversation. After five years, however, it's entirely realistic that such proof of purchase is no longer available – especially since many buyers of durable household products expect them to function reliably well beyond the warranty period. Instead of understanding or goodwill, I received only the repeated refrain that nothing could be done without a receipt. I found this particularly disappointing, as it doesn't reflect the service-oriented approach I've associated with WMF. Some attempt at a solution or at least a minimum of cooperation would have been desirable – especially when a core component like the grinding mechanism of a premium product fails so early. In conclusion: The WMF pepper mill remains visually and tactilely impressive, but I was disappointed with its durability and customer service. A product in this price range should function reliably for significantly longer. Even more disappointing, however, was how customer service handled my inquiry. I would have expected more understanding, goodwill, and genuine interest in customer satisfaction. Therefore, I cannot currently recommend the mill – at least not until WMF improves either the quality of the grinding mechanism or the service process.

Unfortunately, I didn't read the other reviews. But it's true, it broke after two years! The small adjustment wheel at the bottom of the mill broke off. We didn't expect such poor quality from WMF.

We've reordered this pepper mill twice now, and it broke immediately the first time we turned it! The small adjustment wheel at the bottom snapped off right away. We want our money back, but that's no longer possible, and we now have to find another WMF product for the same price. We've completely lost faith in the brand! We won't be ordering pepper mills from them again.

had these two mills bought for Christmas. They look very nice. I immediately filled them with salt and pepper and started grinding, but not for long. After a short time, the plastic wheel came off in my hand, and the plastic on the counterpart inside had broken. There's no indication of how far you can turn it; you expect more from WMF. The adjustment wheel needs a different design.
