To begin with: We used the kettle for a good 1.5 years and were absolutely thrilled with it. It boiled the water quickly to the desired temperature, was easy to use, and so on. We even recommended it to some friends. But (unfortunately) after just 1.5 years, our wonderful time came to an abrupt end with a bang, and one evening we were left in the dark. After resetting the residual current device (RCD), switching it on again was "astonishing" because: Inside the kettle, we could see (in principle, quite beautiful, but extremely dangerous) several sparks dancing. Unfortunately, due to a move, I couldn't find the receipt for the remaining six months. As soon as I found it, I naturally emailed customer service, but I still haven't received a reply. After some time had passed, I decided to take the kettle apart myself (please don't try this at home; I'm an electrical engineer and trained to do this sort of thing!). And after a short search, I found the fault. On the one hand, there's a nice, burnt-through/scorched area between the heating element and the kettle's casing, but on the other hand, there's also the source of the problem: the temperature sensor, which protrudes slightly from the bottom, was the culprit. More precisely, the silicone seal of the temperature sensor was the issue, as it had torn, allowing liquid to penetrate the kettle's interior and causing a short circuit. In my opinion, this is a significant design flaw. The temperature sensor is located precisely between the two connections of the heating element, which is not replaceable. As mentioned above, one of the connections is completely charred and burnt, so a repair is no longer possible for me. We find this incredibly disappointing, especially since this problem could be so easily avoided with a few adjustments (for example, simply not placing the temperature sensor right next to/between the connections if it has a silicone seal). Since we both regularly repair our electrical appliances ourselves, meaning we rarely have to throw anything away, it's incredibly frustrating that everything here is designed for disposal rather than repair, especially considering the (deliberate?) defect that only appears after some time in use. In short: If you don't want to buy a new kettle every two years, steer clear of this one.

This kettle is very beautiful and practical for 1 liter of water. Very elegant workmanship and practical features. A little treasure in my WMF collection.

A great device. Works perfectly and is a lot of fun.

I find the Vario 1.0l glass kettle very practical and energy-saving: The desired temperature can be set in 10K increments; for some preparations I don't need boiling water, e.g. instant coffee, chicory coffee or tea.
