WMF Perfection 880L Fully Automatic Coffee Machine

About three weeks ago, I treated myself to this coffee machine and I'm very happy with it. The display is easy to read, the user interface is intuitive, and the results are great. I still need to experiment with my coffee preferences to find the perfect settings for strength and water volume. But it's fun being able to customize it to my liking.

The coffee tastes great and the milk froth is fantastic. The program is very easy to use. The only downside is that refilling the beans requires a bit of fiddling to get the cover back on. A folding mechanism would definitely be easier. We simply don't need or want an app for making coffee.

We carefully considered the purchase, especially at this price. We looked at reviews, product tests, and comparisons. And we were very disappointed. The drinks were far too cold overall. Perhaps we got a "Monday morning" batch, sure. But when hotter coffee comes out of our over 10-year-old DeLonghi, it's really disappointing. The hot milk was barely lukewarm, and consequently, the numerous coffee variations were even colder. At least the refund process went fairly smoothly, although customer service seemed to be completely disregarding emails. All in all, a real shame; we were really looking forward to enjoying our coffee.

Is there such a thing as a perfect coffee machine? No, there isn't – even if "Perfection" is in the name. But WMF has created a well-rounded product here that looks good and delivers excellent results in my opinion. I do need to get used to the fact that I can't access the brewing unit for cleaning, but I trust WMF as a manufacturer of professional equipment. The operation is very intuitive, and the manual isn't really necessary. A few clicks (for example, when regularly cleaning the milk system) could have been eliminated. It's a shame that the milk container can only be positioned on the right side. Since my machine is at the right end of the kitchen counter, I would prefer it on the left. A minor adjustment to the spout and the rubber connector would have made it more versatile. Similarly, the oversized grounds container could have been made shorter so that the milk hose could remain attached to the machine for emptying it. In short: + quick preparation + cool design + easy operation + perfect milk froth + large water tank and milk container - milk hose inconveniently located - programming needs optimization in case of malfunctions - milk container can only be positioned on the right side of the machine - quite expensive. All in all, a great machine without unnecessary frills. With a few changes, a version 2 could definitely come closer to perfection! I hope the high price pays off with long-lasting durability!

The WMF 880L fully automatic coffee machine makes a high-quality impression not only upon unpacking and initial use, but also exudes an elegant character thanks to its LED ambient lighting. Operation is via a large, modern touchscreen that blends seamlessly into the sophisticated design. With front access to the water tank and coffee grounds container, the WMF 880L fits even in small kitchens and can be placed in tight spaces. The selection is extensive, featuring 15 preset coffee and 3 tea specialties. These can be customized to individual preferences and saved in up to 16 user profiles. The coffee strength can be adjusted to four different levels. Cleaning is quick and easy thanks to the self-cleaning brewing unit and milk system. A 1-liter glass milk container is included for milk-based coffee specialties – finally, no plastic, but high-quality glass. If you prefer not to use the glass container, the milk tube can easily be placed in other containers or, for example, directly in a milk carton. The dispensed drinks are hot, and the milk foam is very stable, even with low-fat milk or milk alternatives. Despite its many advantages, the high price unfortunately leads to a few drawbacks. The milk specialties are available in M/L/XL sizes, but what this means isn't explained anywhere. It would be helpful to know which cup size is required. Information is also lacking regarding the temperature settings, which are categorized as T1/T2/T3. It's impossible to determine what these temperatures correspond to. A major disadvantage is that the WMF 880L only rinses when switched on, not when switched off. It would be particularly useful to rinse off the fresh residue when switching off. Unfortunately, this cannot be changed in the settings. Overall, we are very satisfied, but we find the price significantly excessive considering the performance and compared to our old machine.

We've already grown quite fond of the WMF Perfection after just four weeks. Delivery was quick, and setup took only a few minutes. Since the Perfection 880 L, with its stainless steel sides, is a real eye-catcher, it sits in our dining room. The noise level while grinding coffee isn't so high as to be bothersome. The Ambilight is another highlight. It would be nice to be able to choose from other colors. The first Caffè Crema we made really impressed us. Coffee enjoyment as it should be. It was a bit too strong for my wife, but that's no problem, as the Perfection 880 L offers up to four different user profiles. The excellent touchscreen makes operation very easy. So we reduced the strength slightly and assigned it to my wife's profile. Next up was a cappuccino. Again, everything is well-designed and easy to use. The taste is excellent without any lengthy experimentation. We didn't use super expensive coffee beans and still achieved great results, even with the espresso. It's fun to try out the different coffee variations. I can truly recommend the WMF Perfection 880 L to anyone who wants coffee enjoyment with easy operation and a cool design.

The only thing that slightly bothers me is the seemingly flimsy plastic on the drip tray. I'm always worried about breaking something when I want to clean it. Otherwise, the machine looks very elegant and high-quality. The grinder is also very quiet. It's a real pleasure to prepare a coffee specialty or a cup of tea with the WMF Perfection 880 L.

Fast shipping and well-designed packaging. Setting up and commissioning the fully automatic coffee machine is a breeze thanks to the step-by-step instructions on the display. The water tank with filter on the left and the coffee grounds container on the right (removable from the front) are easy to access and quick to clean. The beans are added from the top. The capacity is perfectly adequate for a two-person household, like mine. Up to four people can save their favorites in the machine's menu. Each product can be personalized in terms of coffee strength and volume. Up to 23 preset products can be selected via the color display. The three different hot water temperatures are especially great for tea drinkers. Enjoying coffee with milk is possible using the included milk container (WMF glass). The hose connection between the machine and the milk container is simple yet practical, allowing for a wide variety of coffee options. The cappuccino is a real treat. Cleaning is recommended after each use. Simply detach the hose from the milk container and let the end hang in a container to start the rinsing process. The fully automatic coffee machine comes with ambient lighting that can be set to a different color or switched off completely. A nice little extra. Finally, I'd like to review the espresso. This was the first drink I made with the new machine, and it produced a perfect crema right from the start. I'm very happy with the product and highly recommend it.

Appearance, Materials, and Workmanship: The machine looks elegant and its minimalist design allows it to blend seamlessly into any kitchen. Its small size also makes it appear significantly less bulky than other fully automatic coffee machines. The all-around LED lighting looks good, but I personally don't need it. However, it can be switched off permanently. The materials and workmanship are excellent. All compartments and drawers close quietly without any clicking or rattling. A major plus for me is that there are absolutely no fingerprints on the housing or control panel. This has always bothered me with other machines; WMF has clearly delivered on its promise here. The included glass milk container looks elegant – like the rest of the machine – and is of high quality. I personally don't use it because it probably wouldn't last long with two small children, but I don't miss it either. Operation and Maintenance: Operation is simple and intuitive. You can customize the control panel to your liking and also permanently save your tea and coffee specialties in a personal profile. This is practical if many people use the machine. I don't really need this function, as it's just the two of us, and we usually choose the standard settings for the various drinks. Thanks to the wide variety of tea and coffee specialties, there's really nothing left to be desired, and the options for intensity and quantity are sufficient without feeling overwhelming. What I personally miss is the ability to adjust the amount of milk foam for drinks like cappuccino and latte macchiato. I would like significantly more milk foam, and it would need to be frothed more firmly. However, this would require frothing the milk separately, possibly twice, and then adding an espresso (which would be possible, but considerably more cumbersome). A major plus is the user-friendly front operation: you don't have to reach around to the sides of the machine to empty the grounds container or fill the water tank, so you can even push it right up against the wall or other kitchen appliances in a small kitchen. Another big plus is the remarkably low noise level. I know several fully automatic coffee machines where you can't have a normal conversation next to them as soon as the grinder starts or the milk frother begins. This one is definitely different and much more pleasant. What bothers me personally is that the message indicating the coffee grounds container needs emptying appears when it's not even a third full. I also find it annoying that cleaning the milk system requires pressing a button on the control panel three times (you have to confirm each step individually: that you want to perform the cleaning, that you've removed the hose, and that you've placed a container underneath). It would be helpful if this triple confirmation could be optionally deactivated. Taste: There's nothing to complain about here. For me, this is also a matter of the beans and ultimately personal taste and preferences. As mentioned before, I would like to be able to customize the amount and consistency of the milk foam to better tailor the taste to my preferences. My conclusion: For me, the WMF Perfection 880L fully automatic coffee machine is worth its price. A machine that truly impresses in every aspect. The negative aspects I have mentioned are comparatively minor when one considers the machine as a whole and – as is ultimately the case with everything – are certainly also due to personal preferences.
